Responding to growing consumer issues in the homeowner insurance market, California Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi presented a plan to implement a homeowners bill of rights at a recent Assembly Insurance Committee session.
"Over the last year, we have witnessed a dramatic turn in the homeowner insurance market, leaving some homeowners unable to find affordable insurance and still others struggling to secure any coverage on the open market," said Garamendi. "The Department of Insurance is first and foremost a consumer protection agency. Our proposed Homeowners Bill of Rights is about ensuring maximum protection for California homeowners."
The homeowners bill of rights should address the Claim Loss Underwriting Exchange, Garamendi believes. The CLUE carries information provided by insurers regarding a consumers claim activity.
