Tuesday, October 28th, 2008 — Hurricanes Ike and Gustav are generating fewer fraud complaints than Hurricanes Rita and Katrina in part because of new anti-fraud measures imposed after Katrina, law enforcement officials say. Fraud complaints, such as fake claims for disaster assistance, still pour in from Katrina — 125 a week — while Gustav complaints fell to about 123 a week in October, down from 235 a week after it hit Louisiana Sept. 1, says U.S. Attorney David Dugas, who runs a federal fraud task force.
