A new study regarding medical liability reform and how caps for non-economic damages in malpractice cases show that awards for things such as pain, suffering, and anguish do not signifigantly reduce the overall rewards granted to plaintiffs. The study indicates that limiting the non-economic damage may in fact be rising the total damage amounts that are awarded. The study shows that although most cap reforms address the non-econmic portion of damage awards, many of them leave the economic damages uncapped.
