Surge Protectors Reduce Damage

Power surges and other electrical line disturbances are the primary cause of many air conditioning breakdowns, a study of insurance claims by The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company recently found. But many businesses fail to install surge protection devices. "Warmer weather increases the risk of air conditioning failures-especially from power surges and other line problems," said James Brogan, a loss control specialist for Hartford Steam Boiler based in Hartford, Conn. "The loss to homeowners and businesses can be substantial,"Mr. Brogan said. "Not only for repairs, but for loss of business income when a lack of air conditioning shuts down a retail or commercial operation,"
