On Nov. 14 and 15, 2008, a brush fire destroyed nearly 500 homes in the Oakridge Mobile Home Park in Sylmar, CA. Residents had just minutes at times to flee 300 foot flames blown by 70 mph winds. Amazingly no one died, a testament to firefighters, police and residents who alerted neighbors and in some cases, assisted them out the door, as the flames approached.
