The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of low pressure expected to emerge in the Gulf of Mexico for what could be the Atlantic basins earliest ’C’ storm on record, dating back to 1950. Friday morning, the system was given a 60 percent chance of developing into a tropical system in the next three to five days. After strengthening over warm water in the southern Gulf near the Yucatan Peninsula this weekend, it will likely move toward the Florida’s West Coast or the Big Bend region by late Monday.
