Trucks, liquid Nitrogen cleared from I-5 in Bellingham

Friday, September 23rd, 2011 Auto

A pair of truck crashes, including a liquid nitrogen spill, blocked all lanes of I-5 in Bellingham for several hours Thursday morning, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) said. On northbound I-5, a tanker truck carrying liquid Nitrogen overturned and blocked all lanes at Lakeway Drive, WSDOT said. About two miles to the north, a jackknifed semi blocked all southbound lanes at Sunset Drive. The liquid Nitrogen spill created a huge vapor cloud as the substance, which is normally stored at a temperature of -320 degrees Fahrenheit, hit the wet pavement.
