Update: Flooding closes schools, roads, spurs evacuations

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010 Auto Catastrophe Property

The heavy rains from this storm -- the third flood-causing storm of March -- have closed roads and schools across the state. More than 4 inches of rain has already fallen in Rhode Island, with another 1 1/2 to 2 inches of rain expected on this Tuesday. The rains have swelled the Pawtuxet River, which has overflowed its banks and, at 14 feet, is continuing to rise. The river has reached "major flood" levels and isn’t expected to crest until later Tuesday night.
