Thursday, July 27th, 2006 — Firefighters, working in cooler weather Wednesday, focused on cutting containment lines in a big wildfire creeping toward rural communities east of San Diego. Firefighters made steady progress, reporting 18% containment of the Horse fire, which has burned for nearly four days through the Cleveland National Forest east of San Diego. The blaze had burned 16,455 acres, the equivalent of more than 25 square miles. It triggered evacuation of the small community of Carveacre, and a half-dozen other little clusters of homes were on notice they might be next.
