Wind And Hail Claims In Alabama Surge In First Half Of 2017

How bad have 2017’s pop-up thunderstorms, microbursts and hailstorms been? State Farm has some numbers. The company, Alabama’s largest home and auto insurer, says it has seen nearly double the wind and hail related homeowner claims it saw during the first six months of last year. What’s more, wind and hail related auto claims in 2017 have increased to 12 times the amount last year. Here are the numbers, from January through June:For homeowners claims, State Farm saw 9,700, while in 2016 over that same time, there were 5,000. Among auto owners, the numbers were even more stark.
