Wrong-Way Collision On Interstate Kills Both Drivers

A crash that killed two people and injured others on Interstate 85 near East Club Boulevard in Durham Monday morning was caused by a wrong-way driver. The incident happened at about 12:15 a.m., according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. According to officers with the Durham Police Department, Aretha Lynette Chavis, 49, of Durham, was driving a 2012 Hyundai Sonata in the wrong direction on I-85 north when she struck a 2017 Ford Expedition driven by Jerry Alamo, 29, of Rhode Island. Both Alamo and Chavis were killed in the crash.
