Here are some tips to consider: Protect your property. Inspect your surroundings when it’s safe to do so. Take pictures and make emergency repairs to reduce further damage to your property. Those repairs may include placing a tarp on your roof or boarding a window. Keep your receipts for any materials or services performed as these expenses may be applied to your insurance claim. Protect your Finances: Don’t let one disaster become a second one. Fraud normally increases after a disaster strikes. Some unethical contractors go door-to-door targeting consumers. High pressure sales or asking the customer to sign over insurance proceeds are tactics taken by some unscrupulous fraudsters. Protect your peace of mind: Contact your agent to report your loss as soon as possible. Most carriers operate on a 24/7 schedule enabling them to respond to customers quickly. Ask questions to understand the process; your deductible, your coverages, and repair options. Due to covid-19, insurance companies are responding to catastrophes with customer safety in mind. Online claims reporting, virtual or drone inspections, and other contactless claims adjusting methods are being implemented. Ask your agent and claims adjuster about the options available to you. Auto policyholders who have opted to add a comprehensive endorsement have coverage for damage caused by hail and flood damage.
