If additional heavy rainfall materializes along the Catawba
River, additional rises are possible along and downstream of Mountain

may be upgraded to a Flash Flood Warning. Residents along the
shoreline and downstream of the dam should prepare to move to higher
ground quickly if a Flash Flood Warning is issued.
The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a
* Flood Advisory for...
West central Mecklenburg County in the Piedmont of North
Carolina...
Northeastern Gaston County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
* Until 830 AM EDT Thursday.
* At 830 AM EDT, Rainfall accumulations of 2-5 inches since Monday
over the headwaters of the Catawba River and associated
tributaries has caused high flows along the Catawba River. An
additional 2-5 inches of rainfall is possible over the entire
Catawba River watershed through Thursday afternoon. This will
cause additional high flows and higher pool elevations through
the Catawba reservoir chain. Duke Energy is aggressively moving
water through the river system in order to manage observed and
forecasted rainfall. As a result, Mountain Island Lake levels
have reached 101.40 feet which is 0.10 feet below Action/Advisory
Stage.
* As water spills over Mountain Island Dam, high flows are causing
rises just downstream of the dam along the Catawba River. Nuisance
flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to the river will persist
while the pool is at or above 101.5 feet. Elevated pool levels
are expected to persist at least through Thursday. Therefore, a
Flood Advisory has been issued as additional rises along Mountain
Island Lake and downstream are possible through Thursday.
* As of 800 AM, Mountain Island Lake is nearly steady at 101.40 feet.
Action/Advisory Stage: 101.50 feet
Minor Flood Stage: 103.00 feet
Forecast: Duke Energy projects the pool could exceed 102.00 feet
especially later Wednesday into Thursday.
Impacts: At 101.5 feet...Action/Advisory Stage. Nuisance flooding of
low-lying areas including residential yards, docks, and boat-launch
areas is ongoing. Flooding of residential yards downstream of
Mountain Island Dam along Riverhaven Dr, Hart Rd, Lake Dr, and
Riverside Dr is beginning. Residents should take immediate actions
to protect property adjacent to the lake and the Catawba River and
monitor messaging from Char-Meck Emergency Management.
