Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Portions of West Central Texas This Afternoon and Tonight... The remnants of Tropical Storm Norma across northwest Mexico will move northeast into Texas later this afternoon and tonight. Bands of heavy rainfall are expected to develop across the area, mainly northwest of an Abilene to San Angelo to Ozona line. Showers and storms within these bands may track across the same areas repeatedly, greatly increasing rainfall totals. Rainfall totals within these bands are likely to reach into the 1 to 3 inches range by Tuesday morning, with even heavier more isolated totals exceeding 5 inches in a few locations. This amount of rain may cause flooding of low lying and flood prone areas such as city streets, normally dry arroyos, low water crossings, and smaller creeks and streams. These bands of storms may only be 15 to 20 miles wide, and areas between these bands will see much lighter totals. Residents of West Central Texas are encouraged to stay updated on weather conditions this afternoon and tonight, and be alert to any possible watches or warnings that may be required.
