Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST THIS EVENING...
* WHAT...Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is
expected. The ongoing storm will continue to bring widespread
heavy rain through tonight.
* WHERE...Portions of Maine, including the following counties,
Androscoggin, Cumberland, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Oxford,
Sagadahoc, Waldo and York and central New Hampshire, including the
following county, Strafford.
* WHEN...Until 700 PM EST Monday.
* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, streams, and other low-lying and
flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Significant travel
disruptions are likely to spread across a large portion of the
region for the afternoon and evening commutes, and continue into
the overnight. Road washouts are also possible, posing an
additional danger to motorists.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 937 AM EST, Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly in the warned area. Between 1 and 2.5 inches of rain
have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in
the warned area.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Portland, Lewiston, Rochester, South Portland, Auburn,
Biddeford, Brunswick, Augusta, Westbrook and Waterville.
- For coastal areas, the afternoon high tide in combination
with excessive runoff could exacerbate flooding.
