Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 830 AM EST THIS MORNING...
...REPLACES FLOOD ADVISORY...
* WHAT...Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive
rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...Portions of northeast New Jersey, including the following
counties, Bergen, Essex, Passaic and Union and southeast New York,
including the following counties, Orange, Putnam, Rockland and
Westchester.
* WHEN...Until 830 AM EST.
* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams
continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 246 AM EST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges
indicated heavy rain. Flooding is ongoing or expected to
begin shortly in the warned area. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches
of rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in
the warned area.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Paterson, Wayne, Plainfield, Bloomfield, New City, Orange,
Newburgh, Middletown, West Milford, Ridgewood, Peekskill,
Summit, Millburn, Monsey, Nanuet, Ramsey, Ringwood,
Haverstraw, Pompton Lakes and Suffern.
