FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...The District of Columbia, the following areas in Maryland, Anne Arundel, Calvert, Carroll, Cecil, Central and Southeast Howard, Central and Southeast Montgomery, Charles, Frederick MD, Northern Baltimore, Northwest Harford, Northwest Howard, Northwest Montgomery, Prince Georges, Southeast Harford, Southern Baltimore, St. Marys and Washington, Virginia, including the following areas, Albemarle, Arlington/Falls Church/Alexandria, Augusta, Central Virginia Blue Ridge, Central and Southeast Prince William/Manassas/Manassas Park, Clarke, Culpeper, Eastern Loudoun, Fairfax, Frederick VA, Greene, King George, Madison, Nelson, Northern Fauquier, Northern Virginia Blue Ridge, Northwest Prince William, Orange, Page, Rappahannock, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Southern Fauquier, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Warren and Western Loudoun, and panhandle West Virginia, including the following areas, Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan. * WHEN...Through Wednesday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of creeks and streams as well as urban areas and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A period of moderate to heavy rain will continue through this evening. Rainfall totals of 1.5 to 3 inches are expected with localized amounts around 4 to 5 inches possible. The highest rainfall totals are most likely along the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The heaviest rainfall is most likely between 3 pm and 7 pm this afternoon into this evening near and west of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and between 6 pm and 10 pm this evening for the Washington and Baltimore Metropolitan areas and locations to the south and east. Rainfall rates around one inch per hour possible and this will exacerbate the flood potential due to saturated soils. - Please visit www.weather.gov/safety/flood for flood safety and preparedness information
