Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.
FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 730 PM EST THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of southwest Virginia, including the following counties, Buchanan and Dickenson. * WHEN...Until 730 PM EST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 124 PM EST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is already occurring in the warned area. Between 1.5 and 1.8 inches of rain have fallen. Flooding has been reported along Hurricane Creek Road in Davenport, Virginia. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.2 to 0.4 inches are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include...
