The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued
a Flood Advisory for the following rivers in South Carolina...
Saluda River At West Pelzer affecting Anderson and Greenville
Counties.
.Heavy rainfall has ended across the upper Saluda River watershed.
Storm-total rainfall of 4-5 inches occurred across the watershed,
resulting in significant rises above bankfull on several smaller
tributaries across northern Greenville County. Significant rises to
near bankfull have occurred on the South, Middle, and North Saluda
Rivers as well. The floodwaves have crested on all three forks of
the upper Saluda River and is now moving down the Saluda River. It
will take another 8-12 hours for the floodwave to move through
Piedmont, Pelzer, and Ware Shoals causing nuisance flooding of
adjacent low-lying areas near the river, including to farmland,
parks, boat-access areas, residential yards, and the lowest
elevations of secondary roads.
...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM THIS AFTERNOON TO THURSDAY
MORNING...
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...Saluda River at West Pelzer.
* WHEN...From this afternoon to Thursday morning.
* IMPACTS...At 11.0 feet, Action Stage. The woodlands along both
sides of the river are flooding. Water will enter a backyard of
one home on Arden Road near Culbertson road. Parts of Pelzer boat
ramp and yards of some homes along Adger Street in Anderson County
will be flooded. Arden Road will be flooded by a couple inches of
flood waters.
At 12.0 feet, Minor Flood Stage. Further flooding of woodlands and
fields downstream of gage will occur. Additional flooding of the
area around the Pelzer boat ramp will occur and floodwaters will
continue to impact adjacent yards. Flooding of Arden Road will
continue.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 5:25 PM EST Tuesday the stage was 11.1 feet and rising
steadily.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 11.9
feet tomorrow morning.
- Action/Advisory Stage is 11.0 feet.
- Minor Flood Stage is 12.0 feet.
