Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation. Consider
taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as
tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra
clothing. Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that
would help you survive in case you become stuck for several hours.
WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE
SATURDAY NIGHT...
* WHAT...Heavy snow. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet
possible. Winds gusting 40 to 50 mph with 60 to 75 mph gusts along
the ridgelines.
* WHERE...Greater Lake Tahoe Area, and Lassen-Eastern Plumas-Eastern
Sierra Counties.
* WHEN...From Friday afternoon through late Saturday night.
* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road
conditions. The hazardous conditions may impact the weekend ski
commutes. Strong winds may cause blowing snow at times with
limited visibility.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow levels starting around 4000 feet on
Friday night rising to around 6000 to 6500 feet Saturday night.
