Rounds of Moderate to Heavy Rainfall Midweek...
A slow-moving cold front will approach from the west Wednesday
through Thursday night, bringing periods of moderate to at times
heavy rainfall across eastern Kentucky. There still exists quite a
bit of uncertainty regarding rainfall amounts as well as the
placement of the axis of heaviest rainfall. At this time, one and a
half to three inches of rainfall is forecast during the period, with
locally higher amounts possible. Currently, the highest rainfall
amounts are more likely to occur closer to the Tennessee and far
southwest Virginia borders, with lesser amounts near the Mountain
Parkway. Should this rainfall materialize, flooding of creeks and
streams will be possible Wednesday night into Thursday, with larger
rivers then seeing significant rises or minor flooding by Thursday
into Friday. At this time, the Cumberland River Basin will be the
most susceptible to seeing some flooding; however, portions of the
Kentucky River Basin could also see some significant rises. Stay
tuned for further updates.
