Rounds of Moderate to Heavy Rainfall Possible This Week... A slow-moving cold front will approach from the west Wednesday through Thursday, before crossing the region on Thursday night. This system will bring periods of rain, possibly moderate to heavy at times across eastern Kentucky. There still exists bit of uncertainty regarding rainfall amounts as well as the placement of the axis of heaviest rainfall. At this time, between one and two inches of rainfall is forecast from Wednesday through Thursday night. Locally higher amounts are possible where isolated thunderstorms occur. Currently, the highest rainfall amounts are more likely to occur closer to the Tennessee and far southwest Virginia borders, with lesser amounts in far eastern KY. Should this rainfall materialize, significant rises and isolated flooding of creeks and streams will be possible Wednesday night into Thursday, with larger rivers then seeing significant rises or minor flooding by Thursday into Friday. At this time, the Cumberland River Basin will be the most susceptible to seeing some flooding; however, portions of the Kentucky River Basin could also see some significant rises. An additional round of rainfall and isolated thunderstorms is forecast from Saturday into Saturday night. There is high degree of uncertainty in rainfall amounts late in the week, but they could be moderate to heavy. Should moderate to heavy rainfall materialize, additional or renewed rises on creeks and rivers would occur and flooding would again be possible. Stay tuned for further updates.
