Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely
necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden
changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the
motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your
destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially
cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is
winterized and in good working order.
MAJOR WINTER STORM THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY...
.A strong snow storm will impact the area beginning early Thursday
morning. Snow levels will start above 3000 feet but will gradually
drop into the weekend. Snow levels will most likely drop below 1000
feet throughout the area by Saturday morning. Very heavy snow should
be expected on highway passes especially in Humboldt, Del Norte, and
Trinity Counties.
* WHAT...Heavy snow possible for elevations above 2000 feet. Total
snow accumulations between 4 and 13 inches possible. Winds could
gust as high as 60 mph.
* WHERE...Trinity County.
* WHEN...From Wednesday evening through Friday morning.
* IMPACTS...Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and
blowing snow. The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs
may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages.
Travel could be very difficult. Strong winds could cause extensive
damage to trees and power lines.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow will continue into Saturday with snow
levels falling to lower elevations.
