If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be
closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of
unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone
property.
Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to
dangerous surf conditions.
* WHAT...For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 4 to
7 feet in the surf zone. For the Coastal Flood Advisory, up to
2 feet of inundation above ground level expected in low- lying
areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
* WHERE...Ocracoke Island.
* WHEN...Until 11 AM EDT this morning.
* IMPACTS...Up to 2 feet of inundation above ground level
primarily oceanside areas with vulnerable dune structures
resulting in the possibility of flooding of lots, parks, and
roads with only isolated road closures expected. NCDOT is
reporting that NC 12 on the northern end of Ocracoke Island
remains closed due to ocean overwash and dangerous driving
conditions. The next high tides will occur around 930 AM
today. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized
beach erosion will also occur.
