Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of eastern New York, including the following counties, Fulton, Hamilton and Montgomery. * WHEN...Until 700 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 404 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to showers and isolated thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Gloversville, Johnstown, Canajoharie, Ephratah, Caroga Lake Public Campground, Caroga Lake, Palatine Bridge, Bleecker, Arietta, Bleecker Center, Peters Corners, Wheelerville, Bowlers Corners, North Bush, Newkirk, West Bush, Lindsley Corners, Canada Lake, Cork and Bradtville. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
