Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
* WHAT...Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall are expected. * WHERE...Portions of northeast and southeast Kentucky, including the following counties, in northeast Kentucky, Johnson and Martin. In southeast Kentucky, Breathitt, Floyd, Magoffin, Morgan and Wolfe. * WHEN...Until 830 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 429 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms moving into the advisory area. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1.5 inches are expected over the area through 8 AM. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. Locally higher rainfall amounts are possible, which could lead to flash flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Paintsville, Prestonsburg, Jackson, Salyersville, Inez, Mason, Simpson, Lewis, Warfield, Ballot, Riceville, Oil Springs, Swamp Branch, Conley, Dobson, Leander, Patrick, Mashfork, Denver and Niles.
