A band of strong convergence combined with a robust trade-wind trough
brought heavy rainfall to Yap Proper and Ngulu overnight. Over 1 and
three quarter inches of rain fell at Yap between 12Z and 18Z.
Numerous to widespread locally heavy showers look to continue
through late evening, with showers decreasing to scattered around
midnight tonight. Latest model guidance varies on expected rainfall
amounts, with the ECMWF already showing less rainfall than what has
already occurred. The GFS is indicating that up to 5 inches of rain
is possible through late tonight. This rainfall is expected to
produce mostly minor flooding for Ngulu and Yap Proper, though
locally heavier amounts could cause moderate flooding in flood prone
areas.
This situation will continue to be monitored through the day.
Residents of western Yap State should monitor local forecasts and
heed any watches, warnings or advisories issued by your local
National Weather Service office. This Special Weather Statement will
not be updated unless conditions warrant.
