Broad surface convergence associated with a strong trade-wind trough
continued to bring numerous heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms
across western Yap State through the morning hours. Available
observations indicate nearly one additional inch of rainfall fell
from 18Z to 21Z at Yap Proper, with decreased rainfall this
afternoon amounting to only four hundredths of an inch from 00Z to
06Z. Satellite observations show abundant, but gradually diminishing
mid- and upper-level cloud cover blanketing western Yap State this
afternoon with lowering cloud tops as the atmosphere stabilizes.
Showers in the area may see a slight bump late overnight, but the
trade-wind trough is shifting further west of Yap and lingering
cloud cover will help to limit nocturnal instability effects, and
associated showers overnight.
This is the last scheduled update for this Special Weather
Statement. Residents of western Yap State should monitor local
forecasts and heed any watches, warnings or advisories issued by your
local National Weather Service office.
