The National Weather Service in Wichita KS has issued a Flood
Warning for the following rivers in Kansas...
Walnut River at Winfield affecting Butler and Cowley Counties.
...Forecast flooding changed from Moderate to Major severity and
increased in duration for the following rivers in Kansas...
Slate Creek At Wellington affecting Cowley and Sumner Counties.
* WHAT...Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
* WHERE...Slate Creek at Wellington.
* WHEN...Until tomorrow afternoon.
* IMPACTS...At 23.5 feet, Slate Creek floods the Kansas Turnpike
near mile marker 15 or four miles south of the Wellington exit.
Closing of I-35 or the Kansas Turnpike from the Wellington
interchange to the KS OK border is highly likely and traffic to be
rerouted. Expect extensive cropland and field flooding along the
creek.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 7:46 AM CDT Wednesday the stage was 23.8 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 23.9
feet this afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage late
tonight.
- Flood stage is 19.0 feet.
