Keep children away from storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams.
Water levels can rise rapidly and sweep children away.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
* WHERE...A portion of southeastern Mecklenburg County, North
Carolina.
* WHEN...Until 930 PM EDT.
* IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams
and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks,
greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and
parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible.
A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may remain impassible.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 637 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicates significant rainfall
has ended across Mecklenburg County. Automated streamgauges
across the county show that most streams have crested and
receded below bankfull levels. This includes the lower
reaches of Sugar Creek and Little Sugar Creek near Pineville,
where streamgauges now show stream levels are well-below
Action Stage.
However, routed flow from upstream floodwaves continue to
impact the lower reaches of Fourmile Creek and McAlpine
Creek. Therefore, the Flood Advisory has been reduced in
size to cover the area where high flows and nuisance flooding
linger and also extended into the evening hours to allow
streams to crest and recede below critical levels.
Areas of ongoing concern include:
1) along Fourmile Creek near Elm Lane and along the Fourmile
Creek Greenway.
2) along McAlpine Creek near the McAlpine Creek Greenway,
Vista Grande Cir, and the S Lancaster Hwy.
- Some locations that may continue to experience nuisance
flooding include...
South Charlotte, Matthews, Pineville and The Arboretum.
