Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of southeast Georgia, including the following counties, Bryan, Chatham and Effingham. * WHEN...Until 830 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas. Local media have reported water rescues. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 621 PM EDT, emergency management reported flooding from earlier heavy rainfall is ongoing across mainly the central and western portions of Chatham County. Roads remain closed and cars are flooded. Although rainfall will continue to diminish, it will take several more hours for ongoing flooding to subside. Never drive around police barricades. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Pooler, Richmond Hill, Hunter Army Airfield, I-16/I-95 Interchange, Windsor Forest, Downtown Savannah, Coffee Bluff, Savannah International Airport, Midtown Savannah and Hutchinson Island. - This includes the following highways... I-16 near mile marker 148...and between mile markers 151 and 168. I-95 in Georgia between mile markers 91 and 112. I-516 between mile markers 3 and 9.
