Rip currents will be life threatening. If caught in a rip
current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If
able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to
escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. Inexperienced
swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf
conditions.
* WHAT...Large breaking waves of 9 to 11 feet in the surf zone
with dangerous rip currents. Isolated minor coastal flooding.
* WHERE...Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan.
* WHEN...For the High Surf Advisory and High Rip Current Risk,
until 6 PM ChST Saturday. For the Coastal Flood Statement,
through this afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Some water on low lying roads and property. Dangerous
swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip
currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into
deeper water.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...As Tropical Storm Fung-wong continues
west-northwest to the southwest of Guam, surf conditions will
remain hazardous along south facing reefs, but fall just below
hazardous levels of 12 feet for east facing reefs, then likely
deteriorate along west-facing reefs as 32W strengthens well west
of the Marianas. This, coupled with elevated high tides and
wind-driven waves from Fung-wong, may produce minor beach
erosion along these reefs.
