Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous
surf conditions.
If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the
current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If
unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
* WHAT...For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 9 to 11
feet in the surf zone. For the High Rip Current Risk, dangerous
rip currents.
* WHERE...For the High Surf Advisory, along south facing reefs of the
Marianas. For the High Rip Current Risk, along east and south
facing reefs of the Marianas.
* WHEN...For the High Surf Advisory and High Rip Current Risk,
through late Saturday afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Some water on low lying roads and property. Dangerous
swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip
currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into
deeper water.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Minor coastal flooding no longer poses a
threat to the Marianas shores at this time. As Tropical Storm Fung-
wong continues to move away from the region to the west, lingering
southerly swell and background easterly swells will continue to
produce hazardous surf along south facing reefs, and a high risk of
rip currents along east and south facing reefs through late
Saturday afternoon.
