OSHA Recordable
A work-related injury or illness that meets OSHA criteria for recording on the employer's OSHA 300 log.
Recordability includes death, days away from work, restricted work, medical treatment beyond first aid, and certain diagnoses. It is separate from WC compensability but often correlated.
Examples
A laceration requiring sutures is recordable; a minor scrape treated only with a bandage is not.
Common Misconceptions
Under-recording to improve safety metrics risks OSHA citations. Over-recording benign first aid inflates rates.
