Sinkhole Claims Prompt Insurance Hike

A homeowners’ insurance company plans to hike its Florida rates after claiming it paid out hundreds of millions of dollars in sinkhole claims. State Farm said it wants to raise Florida homeowner’s insurance rates an average of 28 percent, despite the fact that there has not been a catastrophic storm in five years.
