Holland pilot dies in Plainwell crash

A Holland man was killed after his experimental plane crashed while trying to land at the Plainwell Municipal Airport, according to Michigan State Police. The pilot has been identified as 73-year-old William Beswick. The plane clipped a FedEx semi-truck trailer along the northbound lanes of U.S. 131 near the 106th Avenue exit around 8:30 a.m. Friday, state police said. The plane then crashed in a field and caught on fire. Beswick was the only person aboard the plane and died at the scene. The truck driver was not injured.
