Italian cruise ship operator offers passengers $14G compensation

The surviving passengers of the stricken Italian cruise liner the Costa Concordia will each receive at least $14,400 in compensation under a deal between the operator Costa Cruises and consumer groups. The payment will be made to every passenger, including children, "to cover all financial losses incurred and assets, including those related to the loss of baggage and personal effects," according to a joint statement issued by Costa Cruises and several consumer advocacy groups in Rome on Friday.
