The New York State Assembly approved on Tuesday a comprehensive post-Sandy insurance reform package comprised of 14 pieces of legislation. All approved measures now move to the state Senate for further consideration. The approved bills range from establishing a “homeowner’s bill of rights” to creating measures that the reform proponents contend would increase claims efficiency and fairness, boost clarity of language and further protect consumers. The recently introduced bill to prohibit insurers’ use of anti-concurrent causation clauses was also approved after being amended.
