Driver crawls to shore, dog saved after big rig crashes into icy lake

Firefighters rescued a truck driver’s dog after the big rig crashed into the ice-covered water of Upper Klamath Lake early Tuesday morning. The rig crashed into the lake around 6:41 a.m. on Highway 140, about 6 miles west of Klamath Falls.State police said the eastbound truck, for unknown reasons, crossed the westbound lanes and went off the road into the icy lake. The driver, 73-year-old Carl Hansen of Medford, escaped the cab through the passenger-side window and crawled across the ice to shore.
