Ohio Supreme Court: Landlords have duty to keep tenants’ guests safe

The plastic surgeons have told Lauren Mann there’s not much they can do — she’ll pretty much have to live with the scars streaking her face, arms and legs. The Ohio Supreme Court ruled yesterday that the 23-year-old Columbus woman can return to court to accuse an apartment-complex owner of negligence and seek damages for her injuries. In a 7-0 decision, the justices found that in addition to the duty owed their tenants, landlords also have a legal obligation to tenants’ guests to keep common areas “safe and sanitary” and in good repair.
