State of Emergency Declared By Arizona Governor Due To Record Flooding

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) declared a state of emergency following record flooding in the state Monday. Flooding from heavy rains and remnants of Hurricane Norbert caused closures of sections of State Route 51, Interstates 10 and 17, and U.S. Route 60, and evacuations in La Paz County, Brewer’s office said. Up to 200 homes were flooded in Mesa, according to the Arizona Republic.Brewer’s emergency declaration calls for $200,000 from the state’s general fund to be made available to emergency management and allows for the Arizona National Guard to be mobilized if necessary. She also asked nonessential state employees to stay home Monday.
