Oceanside Resident Vows To Rebuild Storm Damaged Home

Wednesday, January 28th, 2015 Marine Property

A portion of the seawall along Bay Avenue here was destroyed by Tuesday’s storm-driven high tide, leaving a mangled mess of concrete slabs, cinder blocks, metal, and bricks. One house that sits along the wall was boarded up and a part of its oceanside porch was ripped away. Nearby, the storm had flattened a chain-link fence in front of a neighboring home. Joe Hackett, who lives on Bay Avenue near the collapsed seawall, said the Atlantic Ocean started slamming into the concrete structure around 3 a.m., and progressively got more and more violent as the high tide rolled in. “The house was shaking,” said Hackett.
