California Deputy Involved In Fatal Motorcycle Crash

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a Kern County Sheriff’s Deputy. 59-Year-old Larry Eugene Maharrey, was killed at the intersection of Norris Road and Airport Drive shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Investigators say the deputy, Marvin Gomez, was driving ’code 3’ meaning the vehicles lights and sirens were on when the cruiser approached Norris road and Airport Drive. According to CHP Officer Robert Rodriguez the deputy was heading westbound on Norris Road and had a green light. Officers believe the deputy started turning left onto Airport Drive when Maharrey struck him.
