Several vehicles were struck by debris that fell off the Interstate 93 overpass onto McGrath Highway in Somerville early Thursday morning. State officials said a street sweeper was responsible for the damage. The debris fell on four vehicles and smashed some windshields. There were no reports of any injuries. A paving project on the overpass is generating debris that needs to be removed by the sweeper, MassDOT officials said. "Our contractor was advised to implement tighter controls to prevent any sort of recurrence," a statement said.
