Barge Breakaway Damages Ships On The Mississippi River

Friday, January 22nd, 2016 Liability

The Mississippi River remains closed in and around Plaquemines Parish Thursday morning after 22 barges broke free yesterday near West Point a la Hache. The river remains closed between mile markers 51 and 54. As a result of the breakaway, three deep-draft ships on the river sustained damage after colliding with a few of the barges. A portion of dry-bulk soy beans from one of the vessels leaked into the river. The leak has since been secured. The three ships are safely anchored.
