A 19-year-old Washington resident was hospitalized Friday afternoon after a piece of metal broke free from a truck and smashed into his windshield. The driver was heading south on SR-97 about 13 miles outside of Leavenworth, Washington when a metal cylinder broke free from a flatbed truck hauling four hydraulic lift arms used for garbage trucks. The debris went through the drivers windshield striking the steering wheel, according to Trooper Brian Moore. The victim was taken to Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth for treatment of a broken right arm and hand and has since been released.
