Much of of Iowa battled hazardous road conditions Thursday as a winter storm moved into the region, causing State Patrol to respond to more than 50 crashes. From 3 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Iowa State Patrol responded to 55 accidents across the state, most of which occurred in western Iowa. In Des Moines, police responded to more than 15 accidents or disabled vehicles in the morning. For the most part, there were no major accidents on Iowa’s highways, said Sgt. Nathan Ludwig, spokesman for Iowa State Patrol. Most of the crashes caused personal injuries and property damage, but did not back up highways.
