Friday, April 12th, 2019 Excess & Surplus Lines Liability Litigation

A Bill Cosby defamation lawsuit filed by seven women against the actor was settled in federal court on Friday. According to the actor’s lawyers, this case was settled without Cosby’s knowledge. The lawyers accused A.I.G. of having resolved the case on the entertainer’s behalf without his knowing of the decisions made. The settlement was made on Friday in U.S. District Court in Massachusetts by the women’s attorney. The court documents for the Bill Cosby defamation lawsuit were filed on Friday in the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts by the lawyer representing the seven women, Joseph Cammarata. Those documents described an agreement reached between Cosby and each of the seven women. They stated that a settlement had been made and “each plaintiff is satisfied with the settlement.” That said, the specific terms of the agreement were held under seal and were not made available to the public. However, Cosby’s lawyers made posts over their social media denying the validity of the settlement.
