Icy Roads And Snowy Conditions In Topeka Led To Dozens Of Wrecks Halloween Morning

Friday, November 1st, 2019 Auto Liability

Slick roads made for a scary Halloween drive. One car spun around on Eastbound I-70 3rd St. at the Polk-Quincy viaduct. Other vehicles were left in the ditch or off the road. One vehicle rolled on I-70 near West Union Road.

Not too far away a military style truck collided with a tow truck. It reduced traffic to one lane in that area for a while.

"We’ve had just over 45 non injury accidents. It looks like we had about 6 injury accidents. And then we’ve had about 50 service rendered or slide offs where we’ve rendered aid to motorist that weren’t involved in collisions,” Kansas Highway Patrol’s Lt. Adam Winters explained.

During their walk-in accident reporting phase Topeka Police responded to one injury accident and 15 non-injury wrecks.

The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office saw 46 non-injury wrecks and two injury accidents. One of those involved a Deputy’s car.
