Alabama Woman Charged with Defrauding College and Local Businesses of Thousands

A woman from Dothan, Alabama, is facing serious legal trouble after being indicted on multiple counts of insurance fraud. The Houston County Grand Jury indicted her on nine counts of insurance fraud in the first degree and two counts in the second degree in early June. She is accused of defrauding local insurance companies, a community college in Houston County, and other local businesses out of approximately $77,000.

The investigation, which began in 2022, was initially handled by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office before being transferred to the Alabama Department of Insurance. The woman turned herself in to the Houston County Jail on July 24. She was released an hour later on a $150,000 bond. The case highlights the ongoing issue of insurance fraud and its impact on local communities.
